Malta Permanent Residence & Citizenship

Malta Permanent Residence Program.

 

This new program, launched in 2021, offers applicants the opportunity to acquire a second residency in Malta. Being a member state of the EU, the Malta residence permit allows for the right to travel within the twenty six countries of the Schengen Area without a visa. However this program does not easily lead to a Malta Citizenship and passport. If you are interested in Malta citizenship, then please refer to the section below.

Requirements.

  • This prrogram is only open to Non EU Nationals

  • Applicants must provide evidence that they hold at least €350,000 in capital and €150,000 in financial assets, all legally obtained

  • Pay a Government Application Fee of €68,000 when choosing the property purchase path, and €98,000 when choosing property rental path

  • Donate at least €2,000 to a philanthropic organization

  • Purchase or Rent a a property in Malta (both to be held for 5 years)

    • Purchase Prices €300,000 - €350,000

    • Rental Prices €10,000 - €12,000

 

Qualifying Family Members

  • Spouse of the Main Applicant,

  • Unmarried dependent children of the Main Applicant & the Spouse,

  • Dependent Parents of the Main Applicant & the Spouse,

  • Dependent Grandparents of the Main Applicant & the Spouse.

Benefits.

Below listed are just some of the benefits of acquiring Maltese permanent residency.

  1. Permanent Residence status in Malta is valid for life.

  2. There is no minimum stay requirement.

  3. Holding a property investment or arranging a lease is only required for the first five years.

  4. Visa-Free Travel in 26 countries of the Schengen Area.

  5. Ability to include family members in the same application.

The time required to complete the processing of the Malta Permanent Residence application is approximately 6 months.

  • €100,000 + Rental Payments

Malta Citizenship Program.

 

Introduction.

Malta has introduced a New Citizenship Program, known as the Granting of Citizenship for Exceptional Services Regulations (for 2021). Under the new path, applicants are offered residence in Malta, leading to citizenship by naturalization which can be achieved in either one of two ways. 

  1. An individual can either choose to apply for citizenship after one year (12 months) of being a resident of Malta with the contribution of €750,000 payable to the government of Malta; OR 

  2. Pursue the path of Maltese citizenship after three years (36 months), with a reduced contribution of  €600,000.

The granting of Citizenship for Exceptional Services Regulations will be limited to a maximum number of 400 successful applicants per year and is capped at 1,500 for the entire regulation.

 

Costs.

The Malta Citizenship program includes three financial requirements:

  1. A contribution to the Malta National Development and Social Fund 

    • €600,000 (after completing 3 years of residency) or

    • €750,000 (after completing 1 years of residency

    • €50,000 for the spouse and each dependent child

    • €50,000 for each dependent parent

  2. A real estate investment (rental or purchase)

    • Property Purchase for €700,000 or

    • Property Rental for €16,000 p.a. (both to be held for 5 years)

  3. A philanthropic donation

    • €10,000

  4. Compulsory background checks are payable to the Government who appoints a preferred due diligence agency. These fees are payable upon the submission of the application.

    • €15,000 for Main applicant, €10,000 for Spouse and €10,000 for each dependent aged 28 and above.
